We know our network providers need a managed care partner that listens—and focuses on “care” rather than “managed.” I’ve worked with providers here since 1994. I’ve seen the challenges you have faced. And like your Medicaid patients, you know all too well the frustration of moving “one step forward, two steps back” in their preventive and ongoing care. As a lifelong West Virginian, I’m passionate about moving health care forward for our state’s Medicaid members.
We know Medicaid members need more. And we’re creating a plan that covers more than standard Medicaid benefits, just as we have in other states. This means considering opportunities to improve benefits whenever possible. This means access via online health. This means rewards for healthy behaviors. And this means a focus on expecting moms, as well as new moms and their babies. Every West Virginian deserves a healthy beginning.
We know Medicaid members’ needs extend beyond the exam room. We plan to be in the community and address their social needs—hunger, poverty, and so much more. We will forge partnerships with people and organizations that help members find success and satisfaction in their own lives—and improve their families’ lives for generations to come. And we will take what we’ve learned elsewhere to create programs that suit West Virginians.
We know jobs are hard to come by in West Virginia now, and we plan to employ as many West Virginians as possible. We will prioritize care for West Virginians, provided by West Virginians. And you can rely on Highmark to manage this new Medicaid option close to home.
We are in the process of making connections with providers in West Virginia. Stay tuned for more to come.
Thank you,
